Kate Thompson, Term Associate in Physical Education, joined the Barnard faculty as an adjunct in 2017. Her areas of expertise include Pilates and yoga, both of which were invaluable cross training methods during her time as a dancer. Her initial Pilates certification was obtained from the Pilates Academy International, followed by an additional certification from the National Pilates Certification Program. She is fully certified in all Mat and Apparatus work with subsequent certifications in special populations and various enhancement techniques and tools. She has been a certified Instructor Trainer since 2011 and is a registered member of the Pilates Method Alliance. She received her yoga certification from Yoga Works, although much of her training and study was fostered through Om Yoga in New York City. She holds a Group Fitness Instructor certification with the American Council on Exercise, and is CPR/AED certified through the American Heart Association.
